About the Award
The Ed Lindsay Award is a prestigious honor recognizing one senior girl and one senior boy from the CHS soccer teams who exemplify the values of effort, positive attitude, loyalty, focus, selflessness, motivation, passion, determination, coach-ability and teamwork. This award celebrates student-athletes who consistently keep their head up, inspire their teammates, and display unwavering commitment to their team and the sport.
Ed Lindsay, aka Coach Ed, had been at the foundation of youth soccer in Cumberland, playing a pivotal role in shaping the local soccer community. As one of the founding members of Cumberland Youth Soccer Association (CYSA), he had dedicated decades to developing and fostering a love for the game among young athletes. His influence extended beyond the grassroots level, as he continued to coach through the 2024 season of the CHS girls’ soccer team, instilling the same values of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance in his players. The Ed Lindsay Award stands as a testament to his enduring impact on Cumberland soccer and the many lives he has touched through his leadership and mentorship.

Nomination Process
Each year, one nomination is submitted by the CHS girls’ soccer coach and one by the CHS boys’ soccer coach. Nominations must highlight how the student-athlete embodies the characteristics outlined in the award criteria.
Nomination Deadline: April 30, 2025

Honoring Ed Lindsay
This award is named in honor of Ed Lindsay, whose passion for soccer and dedication to the CHS community left a lasting impact. Through this award, his legacy of leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork continues to inspire future generations of CHS student-athletes.
Lindsay was a lifelong resident of Cumberland and a 1964 graduate of Cumberland High School. He was known for his passion for sports, particularly soccer, and dedicated many years to coaching youth soccer in Cumberland. Additionally, he was a member of the Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as a pillar of the community and an inspiration to generations of student-athletes.
