2004 Chevy Festival - June 5th and 6th

This is formal notification that Soccer Rhode Island's U8 and U10 Chevy Festival is scheduled to be held June 5th and 6th, at sites to be announced. It is anticipated that the schedule shall follow the past practice of the boys games being held on Saturday the 5th, and girls games being held on Sunday the 6th (although the possibility exists that that could change). The deadline for entry of teams will be Friday, May 28th, 2004. This event if open for all regularly constituted U8 and U10 teams participating in spring play. A form will be published through which Associations are to enter teams. Individual teams are not to submit entries, each Association is to submit one form declaring those teams that they are entering. As has been the custom, for another year, there will be no entry fee. Please be on the look out for the form which will be distributed in the near future. In any event, please start planning to ascertain which teams can commit to playing in the Festival. Once a team is entered they are committed to participating in the Chevy Festival.

IMPORTANT NOTE AND REQUEST. The ability to hold, and success, of this event depend on associations stepping forward to serve as hosts for this event. In the past this event has been held at three locations around the state, one site for hte U8's and two sites for the U10's. If your association is willing to serve as a host please contact me. As of this time we have one association that has agreed to serve as host for the U10's. Soccer Rhode Island reimburse the host associations for expenses incurred in the running of the event (tent's, referees, port-a-johns, etc.).

Best regards to all,

Ted von Gerichten, V.P. Rec./Dev. Programs

GENERAL OVERVIEW

This is intended to be results oriented BUT FUN soccer tournament.

1. Single Day Format ... 5 v 5 ... Saturday October 25th ... for U8 through U12... Coed teams...
2. 4 Field Players and a Goalie.
3. 25 minute games... no half time. To keep games on schedule, they will end 5 minutes prior to the half-hour or hour regardless of when they start.
4. All teams will play a minimum of three games.
5. Teams will be formed the day of the tournament. They will be formed at random but players from each level will be distributed evenly amongst the teams.
6. Players must show up during the registration period to ensure placement on a team. If someone will be late, I need to know IN ADVANCE.
7. Two teams from each division (U8, U10, U12) will play in a championship game.
8. Point system is as follows... 10 points for win, 5 points for tie, 5 points for shutout, +/- goal differential capped at 5. Tiebreakers resolved via head to head, then shutouts, then goals allowed, then goals scored. With the point system shown the likelihood of a tie is small.
9. The fields will be approximately 50yd x 50yds.
10. There will not be "coaches" assigned to the teams. However coaches from each division must attend and serve as referees and field marshall to ensure games start and finish on time... AND that players all substitute in a fair manner (FIFO method).
11. Champions from each division will receive trophies.
12. The concession stand "should" be open.
13. FIFA rules apply... except on goal kicks, goalie punts and goalie throws where the ball must be touched by a player before crossing midfield... or the ball must strike the ground before crossing midfield.
